MINI Servicing Rattle Diagnosis and Inspection

A 2017 MINI Cooper Clubman was brought to Auto Werkstatt for an oil and filter service, a multipoint inspection, and diagnosis of a rattling noise coming from the right front of the vehicle. The owner reported that the noise occurred while the vehicle was in Park or Reverse, particularly after the engine had warmed up.

During the diagnostic inspection, technicians found that the crank pulley was beginning to separate, contributing to the reported rattling noise. The inspection also identified the A/C line retainers as part of the noise concern. These findings helped narrow down the potential source of the rattle and identify components requiring attention.

The inspection revealed additional mechanical concerns, including a leaking water pump and signs of wear in the lower control arms. Technicians documented seepage from the water pump and noted that the lower control arms should be evaluated for repair as the wear progresses.

The multipoint inspection also identified several maintenance items. Both front tires measured approximately 4 mm of tread depth, while the rear tires measured approximately 7 mm. The front brake pads had about 8 mm of material remaining, and the rear brake pads measured approximately 6 mm, with the rotors reported to be in acceptable condition. The parking lamp bulb was out, triggering a dashboard warning, and the tire pressure monitoring system warning light was also illuminated.

The remaining inspection items showed no reported abnormalities with the windshield or wipers, and the parking brake was functioning properly. No additional concerns were documented in the other inspection categories.

Auto Werkstatt’s inspection identified the likely source of the MINI Cooper Clubman’s rattling noise, along with a leaking water pump and lower control arm wear. The findings also highlighted tire condition, warning lights, and a failed parking lamp bulb, giving the owner a clearer overview of the vehicle’s repair and maintenance needs.
